The soaring Eagles of the AHS Class of 1958 met in Abilene over the weekend of June 21^st. A brisket and chicken buffet and the Cross Country Band at Perini’s Steakhouse  entertained the group on Friday evening.

   129 attended from out of town versus only 45 from Abilene. “What a pity that those still in Abilene do not take advantage of seeing all the classmates gathering from all over the globe!” exclaimed Jane (Hodnett) Fisher and Harriet Bass, committee members.

     Frontier Texas was the site of the Saturday noon gathering. 99 Hamburgers were grilled by Steak Express in the breezy shade of the entrance pavilion. 75 souls were “wowed” by their first tour of the museum!

     Saturday evening the group gathered for a grand dinner in the Abilene Country Club’s newly remodeled ballroom. Mike Flores brought his 1950’s collection of recordings to entertain. Toward midnight the revelers finally retired.

     Sunday morning, many of the class met at MCM Elegante to enjoy MCM’s magnificent breakfast buffet and say a last goodbye to out of town travelors.

     George Nichols chaired the reunion planning committee. Sue (Simmons) White, Sandra (Whittle) and Edwin Broesche, Judy (Jones) Wilson, Christie (Smith) and Gerald Galbraith, Joy (Terry) Jordan, Betty Jo (Gregory) Fulcher, and Joyce (Snow) Mundy were also key players along with an outstanding list of 18  Abileneans.

       Jean McMillon, Executive Director of the AISD Abilene Education Foundation, reports that the AHS Class of 1958 raised $4,655 in donations to the AHS Alumni Scholarship Fund. The fund is envisioned to grow through many AHS Alumni Reunion Groups to over six figures in the future. The Community Foundation of Abilene will manage the money, and the AEF will award the scholarships to AHS graduates based on scholarship, need, and leadership.  AFTER June 30, 2008, please mail checks directly to the ABILENE EDUCATION FOUNDATION with your completed form.

      La Verne (Boyd) and Charles Williams (both in the class of 1958) have moved back to Abilene in the past month! Charles is retired from the FAA in Oklahoma and they have returned to their roots. We hear that Frankie (Cook) and Gerald Horn looked at houses! Carolyn (Bonifield) Sandner came from the furthest east (Vienna,  Austria), and Charles Adams from the furthest west, (San Jose, California).
